Dredging:

The channel was dredged to -2m (CD) of depth.

The dredged material was made of limestones and fractured limestones.

The dredged material was dumped in a specific area and according to the environmental impact study, around 1 nautical mile outside the port.

Matosinhos, Portugal

Dredging:

The dredging of the sediments and rocks using a suction hopper; breaking rock in an area of 400.000 m² up to a depth of -12m (CD).

The rock was broke using explosives that were later removed by Dragamar and taken to a deposit in open sea using hopper barges.

Quantity:

Dredging of sediments using a suction hopper: 400.766 m³,

Dredged using a hydraulic excavator: 84.503 m³.

Rock breaking and dredging (explosives + hydraulic excavator): 216.602 m³.

Douro waterway
Douro, Portugal

Waterway dredging:

The project consisted of breaking and dredging around 22,250 m³ of rock along 325m in the River Douro.

The deepening to -4m (CD) and the enlarging of 40m to enhance the river's navigability.

Methods:

The breaking was done using two hopper barges equipped with two hydraulic hole making units.

In this project, 25,000kg of explosives were used with 4,500 detonators. The detonation system used was a non-electrical NONEL. For the dredging, the Dragagamar hopper was used, equipped with a Liebherr 984 excavator.

The dredging sediments were transported using a hydroclap hopper barge.

Sediment transposition to enhanced the hydrodynamic balance of Ria de Aveiro
Aveiro District, Portugal

Extension:

The largest dredging project ever undertaken in Portugal, with a total extension of 95 km through the different channels that make Ria de Aveiro.

Quantity:

The total quantity volume to be dredged is 1,000,000.00 cubic meters.

Dredging project to deepen the Juan Carlos I pier, in the Algeciras Port
Algeciras, Spain

Dredging:

The project had the objective to increase the operative depth in a section of 500m in the so-called Juan Carlos I pier, going from an original depth of -17m (CD) to -18.5m (CD).

For this project, the Novadragamar dredger used an Xcentric 130 ripper and the hopper barge Philae.

Quantity:

The dredged was developed in an area of around 200.000 m².

The dredged soil was mainly composed of clay, sand and flysh formation common in the Gibraltar area.

Dredging of the access channel to the Port of Vitória
Vitória, Brazil

Dredging of the access channel and turning circle:

Dredging of the access channel with a length of 7.500m.

Maximum width of 5m and a minimum of 117m, and turning circle with a radius of 170m, using a suction hopper and trawl.

Change in the port's depth to -12.5m (CD).

Rock breaking and dredging:

Rock breaking and dredging using explosives using a bubble curtain minimising the vibrations in the city. Dredging using a Backhoe Dredger, transport and dumping outside the port.

Quantities:

Suction hopper and trawl: 1,890,000 m³.

Clamshell: 228,359 m³.

Maintenance: 502,246 m³.

Rock: 114,560 m³.
